Opera in the Domain, not so much like Carols in the Domain, but still a great experience. I was amazed at how serious and mesmerized the audience was once the opera started. I assumed operas are very intimate productions, so in such a big outdoor setting, it would be more background music than focal point. I was very mistaken; there were some die hard opera fans there, and I was not well versed in opera etiquette. Nonetheless, it was very reminiscent of Hollywood Bowl, with it's urban romanticism and perfect summer weather--warm but with a pleasant breeze.
The most amazing discovery of the night was how accessible it was to my place. It was probably 15 minute walk from my apartment to the park, where the opera was held. I swear, everytime I walk with C, I learn a new shortcut. Not only that, I also learned how close the art gallery was to my apartment. Tres magnifique!
I plan to see Madame Butterfly at the Sydney Opera House this season. This was not on my life list before, but it has manifested itself to be one now that I'm here. Hopefully I will get to cross it off this year.
