I had one of those days at work that made me wish I knew how to smoke so I could have an excuse to escape outside. I woke up this morning knowing today was going to be an epic day with the history making election going on back home. I was anxious to find out the result especially after all the trouble (E and) I had gone through to vote via absentee ballot overseas. I still believe these votes disappear into a black hole in the political system, but it was worth a try, just like vegemite.
No sooner had I walked into the office with my cup of coffee was I briefed with the urgent new assignments that had befallen me. Right. Luckily I had gone to pilates in the morning to get my blood pumping, the better to circulate the caffeine though every cell of my body. I wanted to take advantage of the morning high to get as much done as possible before I hit the afternoon slump. With one person on the team out on sick leave unexpectedly and no private office with a closed door to signal "do not disturb", I tried to make the best of it with my iPod. Nontheless, I was still interrupted by questions, requests, and the temptation to check the latest update of the polls on MSN. I worked fervidly until the anxiety in me took over, and I had to take a breather. So I made my way down to the lobby all the while wishing I had a ciggie and ended up lurking around the smoker's area to mooch some second hand smoke (no, not really).
The afternoon was sluggish, broken up by a very boring meeting with preliminary results of our company's internal employee survey. I was having college lecture deja vous when I found myself struggling to stay awake and tried every trick in the book to keep awake. After that, Obama became the first black President of the United States. I wondered if there will be Obama parties thrown at clubs out here. More importantly, like the rest of America, I wondered what the next four years will bring.
